Initial Prison Volunteer Training with Bill Karelis
Saturday May 31 through Sunday June 1
?An initial prison volunteer training program, serving the Midwest, will be offered at the Shambhala Meditation Center of Milwaukee this Spring. This program will be directed by the Founder and Executive Director of the Shambhala Prison Community (SPC), senior teacher Bill Karelis, and is open to the public. The purpose of the program is twofold: to provide training for adults interested in bringing meditation or educational programs to the region's prisons and to create a strong foundation for a Midwest Region SPC group that can offer a consistent level of support to Midwest inmates. You need not be ready to jump in right away and travel to prisons. We are seeking participants who believe they can contribute over the long term.
Program Fee: $65
Pre-registration is required: A deposit is needed to hold your place. Contact Joel Puleo at 414-254-0529 No one will be turned away due to inability to pay.

Difficulties as Path
Saturday May 31, 9:00am (Meditation, Talk, Discussion)
As meditators we are trained to be willing to see things as they are, without overlaying our ideas, opinions and concepts upon reality. When we have the notion that we are trying to accomplish something in particular, it can be very hard to see obstacles as path. Mr. Karelis will ask you to draw upon your experience with day to day frustrations, to help uncover the truths that can be unlocked, when we are willing to be open to whatever occurs.

Shambhala: Myth, Legend and Meaning
Saturday, August 23, 9:00am (Meditation, Talk, Discussion)
Senior teacher: Debbie Zarate
The word Shambhala literally means “ground of goodness.” In our tradition it refers to the warrior family lineage of Shambhala, a body of teachings based on awakening inherent human dignity and the cultural environment it inspires, as well as an expansive social vision. Drawing from a number of sources this class will focus specifically on the myth and legend surrounding Shambhala, including the connections with the Kalachakra tantra and the warrior tradition of King Gesar, to help deepen our understanding of the meaning of "Shambhala."
